Dozens of trees and branches were downed by the strong winds across Moldova on Tuesday. Rescuers and Green Spaces workers were called out to intervene. A downed tree temporarily blocked the Chisinau street Muncești, IPN reports.
The Green Areas Association of Chisinau said that a number of trees fell onto the roadway, while downed branches damaged electrical cables. Emergency response teams are working to remedy the situation.
Drivers are warned not to park their vehicles in unsafe places, close to trees.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that it has dealt with several emergencies so far today. A tree fell onto a car on 31 august 1989 St in Chisinau this morning, while another trees downed by the high winds fell onto electrical cables in the yard of an apartment building in the municipality of Balti. The rescuers were also called out in Cantemir district, where a downed tree blocked a street.
Forecasters said the weather will grow colder suddenly after rather high temperatures the last few weeks. A cold weather front will cause heavy rain and partially sleet in most parts of Moldova. The northeastern wind is expected to intensify to 18-23 m/s.
