The boycotting of the referendum to dismiss Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality is regarded differently by analysts, civic activists and representatives of political parties. Some consider it is opportune boycotting the plebiscite, while others think it is strange. The issue was developed in the talk show “Politics” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.
Vladimir Bolea, chairman of the Chisinau local organization of the Party “Action and Solidarity”, said the party’s decision to boycott the referendum should not be treated as support thrown to Dorin Chirtoaca. “The decision is not pro-Chirtoaca. It is against the referendum and the game played by the Party of Socialists and the Democratic Party,” he stated.
Analyst Victor Ciobanu said the solidarity of the political forces that decided to boycott the referendum is bizarre. “I think everything that happened in Chisinau during the last ten years is a monumental fiasco and if, we take together all the comments from the press, TV channels and social networking sites before Dorin Chirtoaca’s arrest, I think all would be unanimous in the opinion that this mayor is incompetent,” said the analyst.
Civic activist Valeriu Pasa noted the boycotting of the anti-Chirtoaca referendum means acceptance of an artificial scenario in the interests of one person, the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc, who took control of the City Hall by eliminating Dorin Chirtoaca. “This referendum has nothing to do with the dismissal of Dorin Chirtoaca. He will not return to the City Hall and will not be convicted as he is useful to the Democratic Party in the current position of suspended mayor,” stated the activist.
Analyst Corneliu Ciurea said the Party “Action and Solidarity” loses nothing by boycotting the referendum. “At least the PAS didn’t associate itself with an initiative proposed by its opponents,” he stated, adding that the geopolitical principles in Moldovan politics cannot be eliminated from the equation.
