Boy dies in fire, his twin sister struggles for life
An 11-year-old boy was killed, while his twin sister received second-degree burns on 80% of the body in a fire on Sunday, August 22.
Emergencies Service spokeswoman Liliana Puscasu has told Info-Prim Neo that the tragedy happened in a house in Pitusca village of Calarasi district. The twins together with a cousin of theirs aged 10 were at their grandmother on vacation. On Sunday evening, the children went to sleep in a newly-built house without electrics in an improvised bed, while the woman in a summer kitchen. Allegedly, the three children fell asleep with a burning candle that set the bedclothes on fire. The smell of smoke woke up the ten-year-old boy who was sleeping in the same bed, but opposite the place where the fire started. He managed to take the girl out and sounded the alarm.
The firefighters put out the fire quickly, but could not rescue the other boy. An investigation is being conducted.
As many as 108 persons, two of whom children, have been killed in fires in Moldova this year.
