An 8-year-old boy died after shooting himself with a gun that was legally owned by his father. It happened in Ciocana district of the capital city. The police were alerted by the parents, IPN reports.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, it was preliminarily established that the minor’s parents went outside and the boy remained home alone. When they returned, at around 10:30 p.m., the parents found the boy’s body and immediately called the police.

The child’s body was examined by the coroner. A specialized team of the Forensic and Judicial Expertise Center was also called out.

Following checks, it was determined that the Baikal 442 pistol was legally owned by the minor’s father and was kept in a safe. The boy allegedly found the key and had access to the weapon.

The police have launched an investigation.
