Leader of the Balti territorial organization of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Alexandru Volcov is indignant because the police had not protected a group of the AMN members when they were attacked by unknown aggressors on March 26, in Balti. Volcov stated on Tuesday, March 31, at a news conference hosted by Info-Prim Neo, that the attack took place during the demonstrations dedicated to freeing Balti by the Soviet Army, attended by president Vladimir Voronin. Alexandru Volcov says that the AMN electioneerers and he were in front of the Balti House of Culture, having the permission of the city mayor. The aggressors made them take off their yellow jackets with the AMN insignia and torn their placards apart. Volcov says he found out from his party colleagues that the aggressors are trainees of a boxing school from Balti. “I’m afraid that in Balti, instead of preparing sportspeople, boxers, I don’t know why I have the feeling that a nursery for these gangs is being prepared, and they have the task to deal with such cases of intimidating people,” Alexandru Volcov said. Asked by Info-Prim Neo how dangerous it is to get involved in politics in Balti, the president of the AMN youth branch from that town, Denis Bold, said “Very!” “Just realize, if everything is controlled by these groups, by these sportsmen, and even a person from Balti had been shot by one of these pugilists,” Alexandru Volcov specified. He doesn’t rule out there could be a link between the boxing club from Balti and Vladimir Vitiuc, a Communist deputy and a candidate on the 7th position in the PCRM's list for the parliament. Asked by Info-Prim Neo, Vladimir Vitiuc, the president of the football club “Olimpia Balti,” denied that he could control the boxing club from Balti. But Vitiuc said that he assists “with means” all sportsmen from Balti who asked him to help them to take part in different events. Volcov suspects that the boxers also could be the ones who recently got dressed in jackets with the AMN signs and attacked the members of the Liberal Democratic Party. President of the Moldova Noastra Alliance branch in Balti Alexandru Volcov also showed himself indignant that no electoral debates are organized on the televisions from Balti and he asked the Central Election Commission to take attitude about this. Volcov says he submitted a complaint to the Balti Prosecutor’s Office that the police had not protected the AMN protesters while they were being assaulted by the would-be boxers. The press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the existence of the complaint “that would be considered according to law.”
