Moldovan pugilist Vlad Gavriliuc, from Grimancauti, won a bronze medal at the International Youth Tournament in Vilnius, which is held in memory of Dan Pozniak. Gavriliuc medaled in the 52kg class, IPN reports.

The tenth competition of the kind held in Lithuania brought together 105 boxers younger than 19 from 16 countries. Moldova was represented by five boxers. Egor Bejenaru, Dumitru Gumen and Roman Cebotari were very close to climbing on to the winner’s rostrum.

Dan Pozniak was Olympic champion in 1968, thrice European champion and four times champion of the Soviet Union.
