Botanical Garden to use improvised stoves to save rare plants from cold
The rare plants of the Chisinau Botanical Garden continue to be in danger of freezing because the greenhouses are heated at a minimum level owing to the faulty boiler, the institution’s director AlexandruTeleuta has told Info-PrimNeo.
According to the director, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova has allocated 350,000 lei for purchasing a new boiler after the press reported the situation at the Botanical Garden, but the money will be disbursed next year.
Currently, the greenhouses with the over 2,500 rare plants are heated with the help of an old boiler that was repaired from the institutions’ resources, but which may break down when overused.
AlexandruTeleuta said that if the weather growths colder suddenly, the employees of the Botanical Garden will have to use improvised stoves and burn wood in order to save the collection of tropical plants that was awarded at two international scientific symposiums and that cannot be found in the European capitals.
