Botanical Garden has four times fewer workers than it needs

About 60 employees are working on the 104 hectares of the Botanical Garden in Chisinau and its administration says that this is four times less the number it actually needs. Botanical Garden director Alexandru Teleuta has told Info-Prim Neo that most of the 60 workers are brought everyday to work from locations as far as 60 kilometers away from Chisinau because the city folks won't work for 1,500 lei a month. Alexandru Teleuta said that in the past the Botanical Garden had as many as 240 workers, or two workers for every hectare and a specialist for every ten hectares. “Today we have only 30 field workers. The rest are labor protection specialists, electricians and machine operators”, specified Teleuta. According to him, in the times when the Garden had 240 workers salaries were covered by the state budget. Now the Garden has to rely on the money it collects in admission fees.
