Boris Gîlca: We must wear mask so as to protect ourselves from infection and death

The wearing of masks, including in open public places, is a mandatory measure in the municipality of Chisinau. The authorities call on the population to be responsible. Contacted by IPN for a comment, acting secretary of the Extraordinary Public Health Commission of Chisinau Boris Gîlca said the police will monitor the observance of measures and, if need be, the persons without masks will be warned or fined.

The Extraordinary Public Health Commission’s decision took effect on November 20. Boris Gîlca voiced hope that the people will be solidary and will obey simple rules that can save lives.

He also said that the decision does not specify if the children should also wear a mask. The public health specialists will provide details on the issue. The WHO recommends that children older than five should also wear masks. The wearing of masks by children depends on the parents, who should educate them by the own example.

According to Boris Gîlca, the fact that many people do not comply and do not wear a mask in open places is an act of irresponsibility. The wearing of masks by the whole population, in China and South Korea, led to the diminution and full removal of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The mask becomes an indispensable element in our life, as the clothing and gloves in winter, for protecting the hands. The same happens now. To protect us and the dear ones, not only from infections, but also from death, we should wear a mask,” stated Boris Gîlca.

The rule for now obliges to wear a mask in open public places only in the municipality of Chisinau.
