The signing of the Treaty on the Sate Border Regime, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Frontier-Related Issues between Moldova and Romania is a proof of the maturity of the bilateral relations, Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca said Monday. According to the diplomat, the document represents an important European dimension as it makes the countries to cooperate in managing the EU’s eastern border, which could soon become an internal border. Marius Lazurca said the document signed in Bucharest on November 8 actually does not recognize the border between the two states as it is recognized through the status of successor state of the USSR enjoyed by Moldova. The ambassador said the linguistic problem was avoided in the Treaty, which has not been yet made public. He stated it was signed in two copies that have the quality of original. The treaty describes the conditions and method of defining the state border, the method of interaction between the border guard services of the two countries in maintaining border signs and border cooperation, and regulates the resolution of problems concerning the construction of joint border facilities, the work of a joint commission for checking the state border and other activities.
