The number of crossborder crimes in 2020 rose by 156% on 2019. The border police imposed fines totaling approximately 13 million lei, but only 6 million lei was paid, Valentin Fiodor, head of the General Border Police Inspectorate, stated in the January 28 meeting of the Collegial Board of the Ministry of the Interior, IPN reports.
The chief of the General Police Inspectorate Sergiu Paiu said that the total number of crimes in 2020 decreased by about 17.5% compared with 2019. Approximately 24,000 offenses were recorded in Moldova, 30% of which in the municipality of Chisinau.
Secretary general of the Ministry of the Interior Ianuș Erhan noted that the Ministry’s action plan for 2020 was 79% fulfilled. The people’s confidence in the police rose by about 7% in 2019-2020.
Attending the meeting, acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi thanked the police officers for the work they did the past year in extremely difficult conditions. He urged the representatives of the subordinate institutions to ensure better communication in the foreign relations.
The officials approved the Ministry of the Interior’s action plan for 2021, which includes 24 actions in different areas. The meeting involved the managers of the Ministry, the prosecutor general, the directors of the NAC and SIS.
