The employees of the Border Police during December 20, 2018 – January 20, 2019 will work in an intense regime, offering the travelers eased control and reduced waiting time at frontier posts. The chief of the Border Police Fredolin Lecari in a press briefing said traffic increases considerably during the winter holidays, as the previous years showed. It is expected that the border will be crossed 1.5 million times: almost 1.1 million by persons and over 400,000 by motor vehicles, IPN reports.
According to Fredolin Lecari, a series of measures were taken to reduce the discomfort of travelers when crossing the border. A number of 2,000 border police officers will work in a constant regime, while 500 employees will intervene if need be. Priority will be given to travelers with minor children. “Each sector chief was already entrusted with the task of forming reserve groups so as to intervene in the period and avoid the formation of lines and dissatisfaction among travelers,” stated the official.
The Border Police, alongside police officers, will form joint teams to ensure public order in the border area. The activities will also be synchronized with the Customs Service at border crossing points.
Fredolin Lecari also said Palanca border crossing point that was closed earlier for extension and modernization will become functional on December 21.
