Border police can issue citations to drivers for unpaid fines

As of February 1, the border police officers are empowered to issue citations to drivers who avoid paying fines. Later the drivers decide by themselves when and how to pay the fine, but can continue the trip, IPN reports.

The border police, during checks at border crossing points, will identify the motor vehicles that were involved in traffic rule violations identified through the automated traffic surveillance system and will hand over citations to drivers who didn’t pay the fines. When they are issued with citations, the drivers will have to present themselves at the Common Monitoring Center for having the violation documented, to voluntarily pay the fine at banks or through POS terminals set up at border crossing points.

“By such a move, the Border Police aim to support the National Patrolling Inspectorate in its actions and to help make the drivers who avoid paying fines for traffic violations recorded by roadway surveillance cameras more disciplined,” the institution says in a press release.

To avoid unpleasant situations when crossing the border, including the formation of lines, the Border Police recommend the drivers to check if they have fines and pay them on time.
