Border Guards Service is not efficiently cooperating with civil society

The centre of continuous training from Ungheni district did not admit the visit of the representatives of some foreign NGOs, UN and EU, letting them wait for more than an hour, although this visit was arranged for 2 months in advance. On the other hand, the Prosecution and Police Offices of Ungheni had an open attitude towards collaboration, without even being informed beforehand. The statement was made on Tuesday, December 12 by Stefan Uratu, the chairman of Moldovan Helsinki Committee for Human Rights at a press conference dedicated to the Working Group Meeting on the Role of NGOs in Border Monitoring. He considers that such actions are upsetting and prove the fact that the border guards service is not efficiently cooperating with the civil society. He stated that the Centre probably has something to hide. He specified that in previous cases, the authorities accepted the collaboration proposal, which ended with nice results, including the training support offered to the employees of the state bodies so they can carry out at a proper level their tasks and contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights. Representatives from Ukraine, Romania, Russian Federation, Poland, Belarus, Slovakia, Great Britain and Hungary, as well as of UNCHR, EUBAM and others participated in the Working Group Meeting on the Role of NGOs in Border Monitoring.
