Border guards celebrate 21 years of work

The institution created to protect the state border is marking 21 years of work. Over this period, it underwent a number of changes. The Border Guard Troops became the Border Guard Service. One year ago, the Service was reorganized into the Border Police. Border Police Department head Dorin Purice said that Moldova is prepared to meet the EU demands concerning the border, but the Border Police face a shortage of personnel and are looking for young specialists. The official made the statements during the anniversary ceremony, IPN reports.

Through the agency of the media, Dorin Purice called on the young people who have not yet decided where they want to work, urging them to choose the Border Police. The official believes that the shortage of staff appeared when they gave up the practice of employing conscript servicemen.

Attending the festivity, Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean said the whole police system is facing a shortage of employees. According to him, namely the Border Police Department is the one that passed the EU’s test and is the most prepared for European integration.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca offered his congratulations, saying the role of the Border Police is important owing to the specific features of their activities. The Government approves of the contribution made by them to strengthening the rule of law, democracy, and the respect for the human rights. The head of the executive voiced hope that the Border Police will continue to do their duties with honor.

The first troops entrusted with the task of protecting the state border of Moldova were created in 1992.
