Border explosions and two drones in northern Moldova. Authorities' reaction

The authorities of the Republic of Moldova have reported monitoring this morning’s massive drone and missile attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine. Explosions in regions bordering Moldova were reported by Border Police patrols in Valea Perjei, Tudora, Crocmaz, and Olanesti. Additionally, two drones were observed flying over two localities in the northern part of the country, IPN reports.

"In the Larga sector near Briceni, a missile was observed on the Ukrainian side, while a resident of Groznita village in Briceni district reported seeing two flying objects resembling drones at an altitude of approximately 100 meters. The drones disappeared from sight over the villages of Rotunda and Halahora de Sus," according to the Prima Sursa platform, a government information verification channel.

Moldovan authorities indicated that these drones are deliberately flown at low altitudes to avoid detection by the Ministry of Defense’s radar systems. At the same time, there have been no recorded instances of flying objects crashing on Moldovan territory.

Authorities have urged the population to remain calm. If suspicious flying objects or drones are observed, citizens are encouraged to immediately notify the relevant authorities or call 112.

International media report that Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine overnight, firing 120 missiles and deploying 90 drones, as confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Explosions were reported in the capital, Kyiv, as well as in the cities of Kropyvnytskyi, Cherkasy, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia. Following the attack, Poland announced that Polish and allied aircraft began operating in its airspace.

In light of the attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Moldova’s Moldelectrica company assured the public that the country’s electrical grid remains stable. "No energy consumers have been affected as a result of the attacks in Ukraine. In the event of any changes, we will provide updates of public interest", staid Moldelectrica.

The President of the Republic of Moldova condemned Russia’s massive airstrikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to President Maia Sandu, "Using such actions on the brink of winter to force a nation into submission is cruel and unacceptable".
