Boosting of absorption of European funds by Moldova discussed in Bucharest

Ways to boost the absorption of European funds by the Republic of Moldova, an EU candidate country, were discussed in a forum held at the Chamber of Deputies in Bucharest. According to the organizers, the event contributed to identifying the most appropriate ways to support the Moldovan authorities in the European integration process by establishing institutional partnerships that will boost the absorption rate of European funds by transferring good practices of the Romanian counterparts, IPN reports.

In a press conference hosted by IPN, Sorin Năcuță, deputy in the Romanian Parliament, said that they want to establish partnerships, identify joint projects and funding opportunities. “The results of these meetings, debates, partnerships were highlighted during the discussions in Parliament and I think it became evident that these joint partnerships, especially towards cross-border funds and projects, play a major role in preparing the Republic of Moldova, the infrastructure, administration for pre-accession and, obviously, for the absorption of pre-accession and accession funds,” stated Sorin Nascuta.

The high-level conference and forum organized by the Institute for Development and Expertise of Projects (IDEP) of Moldova were followed by sectoral visits. One of the visits was made to the Floreasca Clinical Emergency Hospital. The president of the Association of Public Hospitals in Romania, Silviu Rusu, said that the association is aware of the importance of developing and modernizing the medical system in Moldova so as to provide high-quality services for citizens. The Association of Public Hospitals of Romania reiterated its support for the Moldovan authorities in identifying and accessing European funds for the development of medical infrastructure, modernization of equipment and staff training.

The Institute for Development and Expertise of Projects, starting with January 2022, has undertaken multiple activities in order to boost the absorption rate of European funds by the Republic of Moldova. A series of training seminars on project management were organized for representatives of institutions of the Republic of Moldova. Forums, discussions for establishing partnerships were organized between September 2022 and August 2023, entitled “Boosting the absorption of European funds by the Republic of Moldova – EU candidate country”. These involved about 1,050 people from both sides of the Prut River,” said Iurie Calestru, IDEP programs director.
