Book intended for those who look after migrants’ children

A new volume of the series “Children Home Alone” was presented Friday in a news conference. This time the book is intended for those who look after children whose parents went abroad to work. Cezar Gavriliuc, head of the Center for Information and Documentation on Children’s Rights, has told Info-Prim Neo that three books have been printed so far – one for parents working abroad, one for their children, and one for the professionals who work with these children. The forth volume is designed for the persons who look after these children. “Initially, we planned to address the consequences of migration on the children from a number of angles so as to make the children stronger and teach the parents how to prepare their children for the departure and how to communicate with them at a distance. We also wanted to help the professionals to learn how to better work with the families affected by migration,” said Cezar Gavriliuc. According to him, later they thought that those who look after those children at home also need assistance. They include the grandparents, relatives, siblings, or even neighbors. “The book teaches them how to build the relations with the children in a new situation, how to communicate with them and understand their needs,” Cezar Gavriliuc said, adding that this book should be read together. The volume was issued in 12,000 copies in Romanian. More books will be printed in Russian. The book will be available from distribution networks gratis. It will be also distributed to schools. It can be found on the website of the Center for Information and Documentation on Children’s Rights. The guide was produced within the Support for Children and Parents in Migration Project that is implemented by the Center for Information and Documentation on Children’s Rights in cooperation with ALC France, and within the Strengthening Community-Based Support to Multigenerational Households Left Behind by Migration in Moldova Project, which is carried out by HelpAge International and its partner Second Breath.
