The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Institute for European Politics and Reforms have launched the book “European Path of the Republic of Moldova”. According to the organizers, the book is a compilation of works written by over 40 authors from different fields from both sides of the Prut River. The volume contains ideas about the European option of the Republic of Moldova, about the challenges faced by the country and the opportunities that should exist for the path to modernization to be continued, IPN reports.
Director of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for Romania and Moldova Sven Irmer said the volume contains works that present the path followed so far by the Republic of Moldova in a critical way, including the cosmetic reforms done during the last few years that perpetuated the risk of deviating from the European course. “The theft of the century, corruption spread at all the levels and the distrust in politicians make the pro-European message sound like an empty one. I hope that this book will help revitalize the European course of the Republic of Moldova so as to have in the future politicians who will support this road not only cosmetically,” he stated.
According to the executive director of the Institute for European Politics and Reforms Iulian Groza, the European integration is the safest way that can enable Moldova to become a predictable state with the rule of law, safe for its citizens.
One of the volume’s coordinators Sorin Bocancea, rector of the Iasi University “Petre Andrei”, said that this book is a reaction to the political crisis faced by the Republic of Moldova at the start of this year. The volume was compiled during a month and a half. “We ascertained together that regardless of the orientations and opinion differences, none of the invitees who contributed to this volume said that there is an alternative to the European course of the Republic of Moldova. This book may not suggest the solution, but it puts questions and meditation starts from there,” he stated.
According to the second coordinator of the book Radu Carp, professor of the University of Bucharest, the European course of a country does not mean the signing of an accession treaty only. “The European course means Europeanization too. The Europeanization exceeds the limits of integration. It implies transformation of the mentality and of the relations with Europe,” he said.
