The book “Eugen Doga, Composer, Academician” was launched yesterday in Chisinau. This is the first monograph dedicated to the famous composer and the latest in the long series of actions and events planned to observe “Eugen Doga’s Year” in Moldova. The president of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, Gheorghe Duca, stated at the launch ceremony that this volume is the most complex and substantial book ever written about Eugen Doga. With its publishing, Moldova has righted a great wrong done to this remarkable personality of our nation, “the poet of music, the tamer of sounds, the ambassador of our culture to the world”, said Gheorghe Duca. The academician mentioned that, besides this publication, the Moldovan audience can now enjoy the first national release of a CD featuring compositions by Eugen Doga, after his albums have gained international popularity, especially in Russia. Eugen Doga appreciated very much the efforts of the Academy, thanking the writers and bibliographers for their enormous contribution in creating this volume. The composer stated that the book is very important to him as it is chronicling not just his creation but also his life, by means of essays, short prose and photos. This volume is the third in “Academica” collection, published by “Stiinta” under the aegis of the Academy and with support of the Moldovan Government. Minister of Culture and Tourism Artur Cozma conveyed congratulations on behalf of the Government and the President to the composer, adding that the observance of “Eugen Doga’s Year”, which was launched in January with the premiere of the ballet “Luceafarul” and will end on December 31, is a merited homage paid to the composer. “This book will carry with it the memory of Eugen Doga through the centuries, telling to the generations to come that this nation deserves a better fate”, Artur Cozma concluded. Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said it would be very welcome if Mr Doga could meet more often with Moldovan children and the youth, adding that Eugen Doga’s albums should be on sale in every record shop and form part of everyone’s personal collection. 2007 has been designated as “Eugen Doga Year” in Moldova. In February, the Municipal Council conferred the title of Honorary Citizen of Chisinau on composer Eugen Doga. Born in 1937 in Mocra village, Transnistria, Doga is the author of many priceless musical compositions, film and theatre soundtracks. Instrumental music, romances, songs for children, still enjoying widespread popularity, are signed by Eugen Doga.
