The volume “Tiraspol State University (TSU) in the period of the Nistru war” was launched in Chisinau on July 9. Book author, journalist Ilie Gulga in the launch said the volume is homage rendered to the teachers and students of the university who, working under military pressure during the Nistru war, moved the institution to Chisinau, IPN reports.
According to Ilie Gulga, the depicted provocations reveal unique facts that were hidden and ignored by those who forced things and the university had to move to work in Chisinau owing to pressure. “It is a commemoration approach and a book of mourning. As long as I worked on this book, I had been marked by the events that took place. It is homage rendered to those who suffered. I hope that with the appearance of this book, the wounds at the TSU will heal,” said the author.
TSU rector Eduard Coropceanu said the book depicts the university’s life beginning with July 9, 1992, when the institution started to be moved from Tiraspol to Chisinau. This day is a day of pride for the resistance and patriotism shown by the university’s employees. “After the separatist forces issued an ultimatum, demanding that the institution should be transferred under the management of the self-proclaimed authorities, the university’s staff refused to betray the interests of the Republic of Moldova and, even if the future was uncertain, the fundamental values and devotion to the country were placed above the own security,” stated the rector.
Eduard Coropceanu also said that even if the institution faced serious challenges, being the only one in the country that was relocated owing to the military operations, the professionalism and solidarity of the personnel enabled this to continue work successfully. In the national renaissance period and during the first years of independence, the teachers and students of the TSU were those who supported and promoted the policies of the Government of Moldova. The university was the only institution in Tiraspol that kept the tricolor on its building until the last war day.
Moldova’s first President Mircea Snegur said the book is significant for the whole nation, especially for the growing generation. “A large part of this book is devoted to the process of transferring the university to Chisinau and to the creation of conditions for continuing the education process. The conditions were difficult and many things were absent. I know the situation very well, as one of the persons who helped ensure the necessity conditions,” he stated.
The volume “Tiraspol State University (TSU) in the period of the Nistru war” was issued in 500 copies. There are plans to translate it into Russian and English.
