Explosive ordnance disposal technicians of “Codru” Battalion neutralized an arsenal of munitions dating from World War II close to Răscăieții Noi of Ștefan Vodă district. They disposed of 117 explosive objects and more than 1,400 cartridges, IPN reports.
According to the commander of the Bomb Squad, colonel Gheorghe Racu, the explosives were discovered in a filed during farming works. Teams of EOD technicians led by major Mihail Josan and captain Ion Golovei worked in the area during July 22–24.
The arsenal was in a very bad state and could not be transported. It was disposed of at the scene, in conditions of maximum security, the Ministry of Defense has said.
Citizens are urged to inform the local authorities if they come across unidentified explosive devices or know about the existence of ammunition stores. The devices should no way be touched or moved.
