Bohuslav Sobotka: Czech Republic is ready to share its European integration experience

The Czech Republic is ready to share its European integration experience with the Republic of Moldova, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka stated in a meeting with President Nicolae Timofti. The Head of State thanked the Czech Republic for the constant support provided to Moldova in its effort to implement the European agenda, IPN reports.

According to the presidential press service, the Czech Premier noted that the Moldovan authorities must continue the reforms. “Three countries of the Eastern Partnership - Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine – have a special relationship with the European Union. The Moldovan authorities must continue the reforms and must ensure a functional legal framework for implementing the provisions of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement,” stated Bohuslav Sobotka.

He also stressed the importance of signing an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, which will be a positive signal for foreign investors and will create preconditions for the country’s economic progress.

In the meeting, the two officials discussed the Moldovan-Czech economic relations, underlining the necessity of fostering trade between the two states. Attending the meeting, Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Jan Mládek said the Czech Republic is the main importer of Moldovan wine in Europe.

The Transnistrian issue was a separate subject for discussion. Nicole Timofti spoke about Russia’s interest in keeping its influence in the area, noting that this is a serious obstacle to the rapprochement between Moldova and the EU. “Transnistria was the first experiment of the Kremlin, before the crisis in Ukraine, aimed at strengthening its geopolitical influence at the borders with the EU and NATO member states. In the talks in the 5+2 format, Russia continues to assist the Transnistrian authorities in promoting separatism. Moreover, they are trying to implement separatist polices in northern and southern Moldova,” he stated.

In this connection, the Head of State noted the impact of the propagandistic information disseminated by the many Russian TV channels that broadcast in Moldova.
