The corpse of a newborn baby was found in a sewage drain in a locality in the Causeni rayon. The information was confirmed for IPN by Mariana Didenco, press officer of the Causeni Police Inspectorate.

According to police, the child's mother has been identified. Details about the woman, how old she is and what made her resort to this act are not given.

Forensic forensic expertise has been ordered in the case to establish the cause of death.

The murder of a newborn child, committed during or immediately after childbirth by a mother who is in a state of physical or mental disturbance, with impaired judgment, caused by childbirth, is punishable by up to 5 years' imprisonment, according to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova.
