Board of “April 2009” Fund intends to build monument to victims of torture in Chisinau
The Administration Board of the “April 2009” Fund – an initiative launched by the PLDM to support the victims of the April violence – announced its intention to erect a monument to victims of torture in Chisinau. The authors asked the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) to allot a plot of land on which to build the monument, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The monument will represent a homage and moral compensation to the persons that were subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment by the Communist regime, the PLDM president Vlad Filat said at a news conference on Friday.
It will also be a historical proof of the true face of the regime that has administered Moldova since 2001, the Liberal-Democratic leader added.
“Given that the Communist government refuses to admit its guilt, apologize publicly and assume responsibility for the actions aimed against the Moldovan people, it is our duty to support those that were victims of the dictatorship established by Vladimir Voronin and offer them moral rehabilitation,” Vlad Filat said, quoting the letter that the party sent to the CMC.
The monument will be built with money allocated from the “April 2009” Fund, which consists of voluntary donations.
The Fund’s Administration Board includes Victor Boboc, the father of Valeriu Boboc, who died as a result of the April 7 violence, Iurie Crsciuneac, a victim of torture, and Vlad Filat, the PLDM president, the party says in a communiqué.
A part of the Fund’s resources went to provide support to the families of the victims of the April 7 violence, to rehabilitate those tortured and to provide legal assistance to persons arrested after the protests, the communiqué says.
