Boar hunting season opens

The boar hunting season opens this Sunday, November 18, and will last until December 30. This season's quota is 469 boars, including 231 boars on lands rented for hunting purposes, Oleg Ciocoi, the president of the Fishermen and Hunters Society, told Info-Prim Neo reports. Hunting in the areas administrated by the forestry agency Moldsilva is allowed on Saturdays and Sundays, and in the areas rented for hunting purposes throughout the week. A license to hunt within Moldsilva's areas costs 2,500 lei per boar, and in the rented areas the costs are established separately by each leaseholder. Moldsilva warns that in this season hunting is prohibited for red deers, spotted deers and roe deers. Yet hunting for foxes is unlimited, as their population has become overabundant in recent years. To scare off poachers, woods will be more intensely patrolled. Fines for illicit hunting are 10,000 lei for a red deer, 7,000 lei for a spotted deer, 5,000 lei for a roe deer, 5,000 lei for a boar, and 1,000 lei for a hare or pheasant.
