Boar hunting season closes

Hunters will be unable to hunt wild boars after December 31. The season that opened on November 16 lasted longer than the previous years. The authorities prolonged it for several days as it was established that the boar population is larger than projected.

In Moldova, hunting is allowed on official holidays, on the weekend and during the last two days of the year, on December 30 and 31.

Chairman of the Association of Hunters and Fishermen of Moldova Oleg Ciocoi has told IPN that the hunters aren’t satisfied with the fact that they must pay 2,500 lei for the hunting authorization, even if they are sure that they will hunt something.

“In Romania, for example, they pay only several euros for the authorization and the price of the animal is paid only after it is hunted. In Moldova, the price is the same – either you hunt an animal of 40 kg or of 200 kg, or you hunt nothing,” stated Oleg Ciocoi.

The hunting of spotted deer, roebucks and elks is also banned this season. Hunting of rabbits, ducks, bald coots and hazel grouse is possible until January 12. Foxes can be hunted until February 28.
