Over the next two years, the National Bank of Moldova will closely monitor the country's banks to make sure citizens' money is safe. This means BNM experts will check that banks have sufficient resources, are well prepared for unforeseen situations and comply with laws that protect people's and companies' money, IPN reports.

This year, the National Bank will focus mainly on key areas such as corporate governance, credit risk, operational risk, as well as on carrying out the bottom-up stress-testing exercise. Other areas relate to the analysis, assessment and resolution of vulnerabilities related to payment and settlement systems and payment services, prevention and combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

According to the BNM, the priorities in banking supervision for the period 2025-2026 reflect the medium-term strategy in the field of bank supervision. "These priorities ensure an efficient allocation of the resources available for the banking supervision process, which can be adjusted in line with the evolution of risks," a press release said.

The National Bank notes that over the past year, it has continued its actions to strengthen the stability and resilience of the banking system, making efficient use of the available supervisory tools, procedures and measures. As a tangible result of these measures, the banking system of the Republic of Moldova is in a sound capital and liquidity position.

"The reforms implemented in recent years have strengthened the banking sector, ensuring that prudential indicators remain within the regulated limits, despite unfavorable external factors," the BNM's press release adds.

The National Bank of Moldova mentions that, through specific actions, it supports licensed banks in strengthening their resilience, ensuring their ability to manage risks, respond to challenges and maintain continuity of operations.
