The greatest quota in the total credit portfolios of the banks in Moldova, in the context of risk administration, is held by credits provided to the industry and commerce sectors – 49.7%, followed by those provided to the agriculture and food industry – 20%, consumption credits – 10.4% and those provided for assets, constructions and development – 6.9%. According to the press release of the National bank of Moldova (BNM) regarding the financial situation of the banking system of Moldova in the I-st semester of 2006, the balance of credits provided to winemaking over the past 6 months of 2006 is 1,556 billion lei, representing 13.6% of the total of the credit portfolios in the banking system and 7.8% of the bank asset total. Compared to March 31 2006, the balance of credits provided to the winemaking industry dropped by 86,2 million lei or 5.2%. BNM notes the increasing support that banks give to small enterprises. On June 30 2006, the balance of credits provided for enlarging the businesses of size up to 700 million lei was 1,341 billion lei, increasing by 23.6% since the beginning of the year. The balance of consumption credits provided to firms with sizes of up to 700,000 lei increased by 33.8%, up to 863,2 million lei. On the mentioned date, the quota of the balance of the credits provided for enlarging the business in the total of credits was 11.7% or 0.9% more compared to the beginning of the year. The share of the consumption credits in the total of credits increased by 1.1%, getting to 7.5%. On June 30, the liabilities of the bank institutions totaled 16,737 billion lei, or 11.7% more compared to the beginning of the year. BNM notes, in their structure, an increase of deposits by natural persons by 16.9%, up to 8,06 billion lei, which shows, according to BNM, an increase in the credibility of the banking system.
