Bloomberg: Gazprom wants to expand gas exports

After the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, Putin has identified solutions to compensate for the losses. Bloomberg writes that the Russian Federation will expand its gas exports by directing the fuel to other consumers through the pipeline from China, IPN reports.

According to the cited source, the Kremlin leader may have lost some revenue after Ukraine shut down pipelines for Russian gas deliveries. In this regard, Moscow has already found alternatives for fuel transportation that protect it from a significant economic impact.

So European countries continue to buy Russian gas in record volumes, and this underlines "how difficult it is for the European Union to break ties with Russia".

Bloomberg notes that in 2022, before the invasion of Ukraine, Europeans were buying 155 billion cubic meters of gas through pipelines to Europe, while last year, the Russian Federation exported around 30 billion cubic meters of gas, more than half of which was delivered through Ukrainian pipelines.

According to calculations by Bloomberg, Gazprom sold $6 billion worth of gas through Ukraine in 2024. But international economic experts estimate little effect on the economy from the loss of these sales. Thus, the Russian Federation could lose about 0.2%-0.3% of gross domestic product.
