The side effects of the vaccine Johnson&Johnson are very rare. The ratio of reported blood clots was 1 case : 5 million people, according to a study conducted in the U.S., epidemiologist Angela Paraschiv, head of the Epidemiology Department of “N. Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, sated in a live discussion on COVID-19 vaccines, IPN reports.
The epidemiologist said the Johnson&Johnson vaccine developed in the U.S. is used in 45 states of the world, being approved by the European Medicines Agency. The vaccine is similar to AstraZeneca and Sputnik. Maximum protection against the novel coronavirus appears after 28 days of the immunization. The advantage of Johnson&Johnson resides in the fact that it is a single-shot vaccine. The vaccine is safe and efficient and, as other types of vaccine, protects against serous forms of disease, prevents hospitalization and death and is administered to persons older than 18.
Angela Paraschiv noted all the vaccines are efficient against the COVID-19 variants Delta and Lambada. The COVID-19 situation in Russia is now alarming. Many of the infection cases there were caused by Delta. Research conducted in this country showed that the new variant swiftly attacks lungs. This variant can also reach Moldova as many of the COVID-19 cases were imported into Moldova. The Delta variant was detected in over 120 countries.
The doctor recommends the people to get a vaccine as the new variants of coronavirus are more contagious and can cause serious forms of disease or death. Studies at a hospital in Chisinau showed that patients who had COVID-19 got infected again later as the immune system was weak, while the antibodies ensured protection during a short period of time.
The epidemiologist said vaccination is indicated primarily to persons who suffer from other diseases, such as diabetes mellitus and cancer, and are immunocompromised.
