The large fire that started on Uzinelor St in Chisinau on Sunday morning was fully extinguished after 24 hours. During the night the firefighters placed a layer of soil on the affected area. They also used water with foam. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, no one was hurt in the fire, IPN reports.
The fire was reported to the 112 service close to 5am on October 9. It was initially determined that about 30 ares were affected. Eight firefighting teams with water tanks, excavators and bulldozers were dispatched to the scene. A command post was set up to monitor and manage the operation. The flames engulfed tonnes of plastic waste stored for being recycled.
“Owing to efficient cooperation between all the involved services, the fire was put out in the morning of October 10, at 3:46am. According to data of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the fire destroyed an area of 2,250 square meters. Three trailers were partially damaged. No victims were reported. The cause and circumstances of the fire are yet to be found out,” noted the Inspectorate.
