BITEI is supported by authorities symbolically, statement
The International Theater Festival BITEI has been supported by the authorities symbolically. In the end of the tenth edition, the Festival’s director Petru Vutcarau said the high-ranking politicians did not even come to the performances, not speaking about supporting them financially, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“It’s a pity that this festival, which is the only one of the kind in Moldova, does not enjoy state support. However, the state contributed a symbolic amount, whose size varied from year to year, depending on what the politicians dreamt and on their preferences,” said Petru Vutcarau.
He also said that the politicians are invited to the festival every year, but nobody came to the plays, except for the minister of culture and the mayor of Chisinau.
In another development, Petru Vutcarau said they intend to transform the biannual theater festival into an annual one and are looking for an appropriate name for it.
BITEI 2012 took place in the period between May 25 and June 3. Actors from South Korea, Japan, Italy, the UK, Romania, Czech Republic, Russia, Spain, Ukraine and other countries presented 30 international performances of theater, music and dance.
