The Bishop of Balti and Falesti Markel called on the Orthodox Christians and priests to come together and oppose the march of homosexuals set for May 19, IPN reports.
“Brothers Christians, don’t allow your children to see what the homosexuals prepare to stage in Chisinau. Put up resistance by prayer and by your presence,” Bishop Markel urged in a news conference. He addressed the members of the first democratic Parliament of Moldova. “I’m sure that you, the lawmakers who laid the foundation of this state, didn’t want such a country,” he stated.
He made the same call to the police, asking that they maintain public order. “Don’t be indifferent. Show your disagreement with the new model of European life that is supported only by the homosexuals,” said the Bishop.
He also said that the liberalized visa regime was only an unfulfilled promise. “Misters Filat, Lupu and the other leaders, in what banks did you deposit the money promised for ignoring the Christian morals of the people? We think that Europe kept its word when it promised us a lot of money,” said Bishop Markel.
He made reference to the visit of the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle, who, according to him, comes to Chisinau for the march of the LGBT community that coincides with Europe Day not accidentally. The Bishop said that after the antidiscrimination law was passed, the Government said that this law does not allow the homosexuals to stage public parades or to register marriages, but these things are not respected.
The Moldovan Metropolitan Church on May 14 made a call to Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, asking not allowing holding the homosexuals’ parade.
