The birth rate in the municipality of Chisinau increased by 8% in the first half of this year, while mortality rate decreased by 0.8 percent compared to the same period last year, IPN reports, with reference to data from the National Bureau of Statistics.

Provisional data show that 3,494 live births were registered in January-June 2024. The birth rate was 10.6 live births per thousand inhabitants.

In the same period, 3,271 people died, by 0.8% less than in January-June 2023. The death rate was 9.9 deaths per thousand inhabitants.

However, the number of children who died before their first birthday grew by 9.7%, with 68 infants who died suddenly, as a result of accidents or diseases.
