The state budget and the local budgets annually lose billions of lei owing to the fraudulent management of publicly owned land. According to the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA), the gravity of the situation also resides in the fact that the nonregistered land cannot be officially and transparently leased out and taxes on this cannot be calculated in accordance with the method stipulated by law, IPN reports.
“Namely to commit these and other abuses unhampered, the government intentionally hinders the creation of a solid financial database for the country’s decentralization. Moreover, in such artificially created circumstances, the phenomenon of unauthorized constructions flourishes and other billions of lei fail to be collected into the budget,” says a statement issued by the party.
After it takes over the PPPDA pledges to swiftly ensure the registration and assessment of all the public plots of land that haven’t been identified so far by clearly delimiting the property of territorial-administrative units from that of the central power. According to the party, this will strengthen the financial autonomy of the local public authorities, will hamper the illegal appropriation of land and will significantly reduce corruption in the central and local public administration bodies.
