Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca ordered taking down the billboards located in the middle of the roadway. He instructed the relevant subdivisions to present the addresses where the billboards will be removed within a week. The amendments to the legislation banning placing advertisements in the middle of the road have been adopted this July. They also prohibit putting external ads at a distance shorter than six meters from the roadside and near separation lanes, bridges and road barriers. Dorn Chirtoaca said that the billboards situated on Dacia Blvd. will be the first to be taken down and will be followed by those placed along the viaduct in Botanica district. The mayor ordered the Public Transport and Communications Division and the Architecture and Urbanism Division to examine every billboard and authorization held by the owner and identify possibilities of relocating the boards or withdrawing them. Dorn Chirtoaca admitted that the move will lead to a decrease in the budget revenues, but said that safety is more important. According to him, the municipal administration collects about 16 million lei from street advertising every year.
