Bill on creation of Ministry of Diaspora registered in Parliament

The chairman of the Democratic Action Party (PAD) Mihai Godea registered in Parliament a legislative initiative on the creation of the Ministry for Relations with the Diaspora and Reintegration of the Migrants. The MP said the foundation of such a ministry is one of the ten promises made by the ruling alliance before the election of the President of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Ministry will have three divisions. The first division will ensure the permanent cooperation with the diaspora and its organizations. This task is now carried out by the Interethnic Relations Bureau, but it does only formal things that do not have a real impact on the life of the Moldovan communities. The second division will be responsible for the protection of the migrants abroad. “We signed agreements on the protection of migrants’ social rights with a number of countries, but there are communication-related problems with such counties as France and Russia, where there are many Moldovans,” said Mihai Godea. The social and economic reintegration of migrants is the next strategic direction. “The Government does not possess statistical data about the remittances coming from abroad. The volume of remittances sent from Russia is larger than the total volume of remittances coming to Moldova, according to Moldovan statistics. There is no cooperation strategy with these organizations and there are staged only formal events,” stated the leader of the PAD. According to statistics, about 300,000 Moldovans went to work abroad in 2011.
