In the next decade, advancements in artificial intelligence will lead to a world where people are no longer needed "for most things," said Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, in an interview with NBC.

"Today, expertise remains 'rare' in many fields, including medicine and education. These areas depend on 'an excellent doctor' or 'an excellent teacher'. But with AI, in the next 10 years, this will become free, commonplace – great medical advice, excellent education," Gates noted.

In other words, the world is entering a new era of what Bill Gates called “free intelligence.” The result includes rapid advancements in AI-based technologies that are accessible and touch nearly every aspect of life, from improved medications and diagnostics to virtual teachers and assistants powered by AI, IPN reports.

"It’s very profound and even a little scary, because it’s happening very quickly and there’s no limit," Gates added, as quoted by NBC.

Some experts say that artificial intelligence will help people work more efficiently, rather than replace them entirely, and will drive economic growth that will lead to the creation of more jobs.

On the other hand, Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, says that in the coming years, continuous technological advancements will drastically change most jobs across nearly all industries and will have an “extremely destabilizing” impact on the workforce.

Bill Gates predicted the AI revolution nearly a decade ago, when he was asked which industry he would focus on if he had to start from scratch. His answer was: "AI". At the time, the technology was still years away from ChatGPT. However, by 2023, even Gates was surprised by the pace of AI development. He challenged OpenAI to create a model that could achieve a top score on a high school AP Biology exam, expecting it to take two or three years.
