When going to purchase a toy, the adults should be very attentive to the information on the label, the quality and also correspondence with the age of the child for whom it is bought. The products should be purchased in safe places. If the product turns out to be of a poor quality or noncompliant with other requirements, the buyer can take it back and the business entity is obliged to replace it or to return the money paid for it. Such pieces of advice and recommendations were formulated by the Agency for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance on the occasion of International Children’s Day, IPN reports.
Nicolai Olărașu, of the Agency, said any toy should contain the CE marking on the packing. This is applied only by the producer or its authorized representative. This shows that the product complies with the requirements stipulated by the EU legislation and, by applying it, the producer assumes responsibility for its compliance. In the case of plush toys, this information is put on the label attached to the toy.
If a toy contains only the barcode on the label, this is a reason for concern. The label or packing should contain information about the method of use, producer, importer, age from which a child can use the toy, etc. The toys with small parts are very dangerous, especially for children under three as they can swallow them or choke on them. Special attention should be paid to products that reproduce food products as the kids are tempted to taste them. The toys, except for those with sound-making mechanisms, should be washable.
If a person buys a toy of a poor quality, they can leave a complaint in the complaints register, indicating the name of the buyer, to whom it is addressed, date of purchase and the reasons for the disconnect. The company is obliged to provide a response during 14 days. The buyer can also send the complaint as a recommended letter to the legal address indicated in the sales slip. The company should also respond within 14 days and replace the product or return the money. Complaints can be submitted during the product’s warranty period or length of life.
If the complaint is not dealt with in accordance with the law, the person can submit a petition to the Agency for Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance by attaching the complaints sent to the company and the sales slip. Any problem related to the safety of products can be reported to the “Consumer’s Telephone” on 022 51 51 51.
