Best Moldovan sites named in WEBTOP 2007 Contest

The best websites created for the Moldovan society and by Moldovan specialists were named within the WEBTOP 2007 Contest, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the organisers, WEBTOP promotes the utilisation of internet as means for presentation and promotion, as an environment for business, knowledge, information and free expression. WEBTOP is organized in 11 categories and a virtual exhibition of websites. The categories include public administration bodies, arts and culture, business, virtual communities, education and science, mass-media, virtual Moldova, health and sports, personal sites/blogs, civil society and web design. The official webpage of the National Bank of Moldova placed first in the Public Administration Bodies’ category. The website of the Causeni District Council placed 2nd, followed by the Ministry of Finance. 11 sites dedicated to Arts and Culture made it to the final stage of the competition. The National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography was recognised the best in this category, followed by the official website of the Zdob si Zdub band. Third place was shared by the National Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Pamparam Magazine. Another 20 web pages participated in the Virtual Communities Category, the winners being Zdob si Zdub (first place), www.civic.md (second), www.lady.md and www.spagma.md (third). The contest brought together 23 participants in the Education and Science category. First place was awarded to the Drochia based Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Lyceum. www.almamater.md and www.iubire.md placed second; www.nato.md and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova were ranked third. Out of the 7 participants in the Mass-Media category, the website of PRO TV placed first, followed by www.unimedia.md. Third place was occupied by www.infotag.md and the Moldovan-Romanian online newspaper. The Virtual Moldova category was represented by 10 participants, the Chisinau City Hall’s website (www.chisinau.md) receiving first place in front of www.worlofmoldova.com and www.moldova.org placing second and www.slavga.md and www.criva.md - third. The Civil Society category brought together 17 participants. www.civic.md was designated as the winner in this section, while www.irp.md placed second, followed by www.procore.md. 14 contesters competed in the Business Category, where www.sanatate.md proved to be the best. The official webpage op the Chisinau Airport www.aeroport.md placed second and www.unite.md – third. The winner in the Web Design category is www.design.md, followed by www.svadiba.md and www.moldtelecom.md. The 2007 Web Studio Prize was awarded to Diplace. The jury of the contest was composed of recognised IT specialists and experts in specific domains. The results of the preliminary contest were decided by another jury, who appreciated all the participants with marks ranging from 1 to 10 according to the following criteria: design, content, functionality, general impression. The greatest number of points awarded to one site was 100. The website which obtained the greatest number of prises will be designated the year’s web studio. All the participants in the virtual exhibition received gifts and diplomas from the organisers and sponsors. In 2007, as decided by the SOROS-Moldova Foundation, WEBTOP was organised by the DNT Association, while the current edition was held by the UNDP Building E-Governance in Moldova Project.
