The best pedagogues working in Chisinau’s child protection system have received their awards during a ceremony held Monday.
The pedagogues were selected as part of the broader Teachers of the Year annual contest, and this year it is the first time child protection specialists, including social assistants and psychologists, are distinguished.
Lucia Caciuc, acting head of the municipal Child Protection Directorate, said the work done by these specialists is special, as they assist children from vulnerable families or deprived of parental care. Offering awards is a way of addressing the high turnover rates in this sector, says Caciuc: “We thought such a contest will inspire and encourage them, so that they understand how appreciated their work is and how invaluable they are for the system”.
The participants in the contest had to submit an essay on the topic “A Pedagogue’s Professional Portrait” and to deliver a speech themed “In the Name of the Future”. Besides diplomas, the awards also came with money prizes.
