Books, journals, CDs, photographs and other materials dating from the 18th and next centuries about the Bessarabian woman who became a queen, the first Bessarabian female engineer, doctor, geologist, the Bessarabian female yard sculptor of the great duke of Luxemburg and many other women who made the country’s history were exhibited in the hall of the National Library of Moldova in Chisinau. The exhibit entitled “Bessarabian woman, an argument of eternity” brings together over 100 materials that describe the contribution made by the women from Bessarabia and the Republic of Moldova to politics, science, education, culture, arts and society, IPN reports.

In the opening of the exhibition, National Library director Elena Pintilei said the event comes to highlight the heritage kept at the institution and also the life and work of women from Bessarabia and the Republic of Moldova who went down in history for their deeds. The woman is the one who really creates the eternity, gives life and keeps warmth in the family, educates children and knows how to love. But the woman should be praised and the results achieved by our women should be made known.

Viorica Nagachevski, notary and lyricist, said the women were created to know everything, while the Bessarabian woman is special and nothing makes her more beautiful than happiness. She noted she is proud that she was born in the same locality as the first woman lawyer Eugenia Krushevan was.

In the event, it was noted that the Feminist Movement of Bessarabia started in the middle of the 19th century. On March 8, 1864, there was opened the first girls’ school in Bessarabia. In several months, there was also opened the first eparchial girls’ school.

The people who took part in the opening of the event could also see an artistic performance by the soloist of the band Probachus, Valentin Butnaru.

The exhibition will continue until April 15. Entrance is free of charge.
