BERD ready to provide loans to Moldova in 2007-2009
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BERD) plans in 2007-2009 to carry out projects in Moldova worth about EUR 30 mln annually, head of EBRD Office in Moldova Francis Delaey told a press conference. Concurrently, he did not exclude that EBRD’s investments could be larger if there would be feasible projects.
Delaey specified that in 2007, there are opportunities to extend the number of banks with which EBRD would cooperate in opening credit lines. “The larger the number of partner banks is, the larger the sum of money will be channelled by EBRD into Moldova’s economy”.
BERD official also said that the bank is interested in funding new projects for the Chisinau International Airport, after the previous project to reconstruct the airport was a “successful” one, and the credit was repaid before the term expired. Above all, EBRD will implement projects aimed at banking and agro-industrial sectors. “We are interested in investing in the wine industry and if we receive viable projects, we will examine and gladly support them”, Francis Delaey said.
EBRD also examines possible transactions in telecommunications and informatics, and in leasing field too.
In 2007, the Bank plans to implement in Moldova projects valued at EUR 30-40 mln.
