A group of Orthodox Christians want the Synod of the Metropolitan Church of Moldova to be summoned. The Synod, which last met a year ago, should work on an action plan for the Church and announce a stance regarding the current situation of the country. The churchgoers publicly asked Metropolitan Vladimir, via a press conference at IPN, to end the silence and denounce the wrongdoings that plague the country, promoting Orthodoxy by example.
Ghenadie Valuta, head of the Pro Ortodoxia Association, said that the church year, which begins on September 1, nears its end and the Synod should be summoned to draw some conclusions.
According to him, society is descending into chaos and politicians who were calling people to vote in elections are now warning about the upcoming harsh times. This is why, says the priest, people's souls are “ill” and there isn't enough patience, tolerance, love and prayer. “We think that the Church is able to come up with a message to improve the situation”, stressed Valuta.
Polina Andrias, churchgoer, thinks Moldova is a land blessed by God and should be protected by enemies. “The people are embittered and many are leaving. Most of them go to Church to pray for material well-being or health, but few pray for the forgiveness of sins”, said the believer. She thinks that more prayers for peace are needed and people should be told where the danger comes from, so that evil won't be presented as good and the values promoted by foreigners won't be accepted.
Another member of the group, Radu Busila, says that humankind is at the crossroads of ages and colossal efforts are required for Moldova's survival as a Christian nation. However, he assured that Christians from the academic environment are ready to help the Metropolitan in uniting society.
