Belgium is offering more than 200,000 euros worth of humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees living in Moldova. The donation contains tents, sanitary kits, electricity generators. The generators have already been distributed to fire and rescue stations, Moldovan President Maia Sandu announced during a joint press conference with Alexander de Croo, the prime minister of Belgium, IPN reports.
Sandu mentioned that there are currently more than 90,000 Ukrainian refugees in Moldova, and half of them are children.
Regarding the Moldovan-Belgian cooperation, Maia Sandu said that 152 companies with Belgian capital operate in Moldova. 32 bilateral treaties were signed on education, culture, labor, road transport and social security. “We also want partnerships in the areas of justice, fight against corruption, and recovery of stolen goods,” she said.
For his part, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo said a Moldovan-Belgian agreement on police co-operation is to be signed in the near future.
One month ago, the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Belgium marked 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
