Belarusian Yevgeny Potenko wins Moldova’s President’s cup in cycling

The Belarusian sportsmen Yevgeny Potenko has won the sixth edition of the international cycling race for the Moldovan President’s Cup. It took place on June 20 in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Grand Prix of this year’s edition was a bike worth 1,000 euros. The second place has been won by the Pole Pawel Petrovicz, as the Ukrainian Pereviinos Nazar came the third. They took part in the junior race. In the cadet race, the Ukrainian Markian Zmorka came the first. The second position has been won by the Ukrainian Pavel Davydin, while the Latvian Yevgeny Popov came the third. The Moldovan sportspeople have won no places on the podium, unlike in the previous editions. The traffic in Chisinau’s downtown was blocked during the race. In opening the event, Moldova’s acting president Vladimir Voronin spoke about the importance of these contests, underlining they are meant to promote cycling in Moldova. Then he disappeared behind the stage only to re-appear dressed in short pants and a t-shirt. He climbed a bike and joined the amateurs’ race. The event has been attended by 150 sportspeople from 7 countries: Armenia, Belarus, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine and Poland. This year, the budget to hold the Moldovan President’s Cup was 100,000 euros.
