The gross salary of a beginner judge in 2018 was €10,700 on average a year. The figure is three times higher than in 2013 and five times lower than the average of the Council of Europe (CoE). An infographic that shows the salaries of judges and prosecutors was published by the Legal Resources Center of Moldova, IPN reports.
Only the judges in Ukraine had salaries lower than the judges in Moldova. There, the beginner judges received a gross annual salary of over €7,000.
The beginner judges in Germany had the highest gross average pay in 2018, of over €47,000, followed by those in Estonia, with a pay of over €41,000. The beginner judges in Romania were paid €29,000 a year, while those in Russia over €18,600.
In 2016 - 2018, the salary of beginner prosecutors in Moldova rose by 71%. In 2018, the salary of beginner prosecutors in Moldova was three times lower than the CoE average.
