Begging accompanied by the simulation of disability will be penalized with a fine of up to 1,500 lei or up to 60 hours of community service. This is provided in a bill to amend the Contravention Code that was given a first reading by Parliament, IPN reports.

Another provision of the bill stipulates that the reconstruction or repair works accompanied by noise will be banned in apartment buildings on Sundays. Currently, these works are banned on weekdays between 6pm and 8am.

New penalties were also introduced into the Contravention Code for actions that lead to soil degradation. For unauthorized storage of building materials or extractive industry waste on fertile soil, private individuals will be fined 4,000 to 7,500 lei, while legal entities - 5,000 to 15,000 lei.

Given the increasing number of contravention cases pending in court, it is proposed extending the maximum examination period from 30 days to two months of the day the case is registered with the court.
