Bebbo, Moldova’s first app for parents, launched by UNICEF

A free mobile application for parents and carers of children up to six years old, called Bebbo, was launched by UNICEF in partnership with the Moldovan Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Research, and Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The app aims to provide parents with expert certified advice on topics related to child health care and development. The app includes features that allow parents to monitor vaccinations, health checks, and key developmental milestones.

UNICEF says in a press release that Bebbo also supports refugee parents in Ukraine, who can easily access advice on raising children, providing a safe environment for them and maintaining their own well-being.

The content of the application can be customized according to the age of the children, but also used simultaneously by both parents for one or more children.

“We all know that the early years of life have a profound effect on children’s future – on their brain development, health, happiness, ability to learn at school, their well-being and even their income as adults. In this formative stage of life, a baby’s brain can produce more than a million new brain connections every second, a pace that is never repeated later in life”, says Maha Damaj, UNICEF Country Representative in Moldova.

Doina Danielean, one of the parents who uses Bebbo, reported that thanks to the application she can check if her daughter’s height and weight correspond to age norms. She can also learn about the most important stages of development and easily identify if something is wrong. “Through the vaccination program in the app, our family never misses the necessary vaccines or health checks,” says Doina Danilean.

As of today, the Bebbo app is available in 14 countries in Europe and Central Asia, and more than 500 thousand parents have already installed it on their devices. With the financial support of the LEGO Foundation, several coordinated actions will be implemented to promote Bebbo, so that the information reaches as many parents and caregivers as possible in the country.

The Bebbo application can be downloaded for free from Google Play and AppStore.
